 From Martyrs Mirror: Anabaptist Dirk Willems rescuing his pursuer in Asperen,Europe 1569. Anabaptist were imprisoned and executed by Protestants and Catholics for their belief in believer's baptism and separation of church and state. Escaped from prison, Dirk stopped to rescue his pursuer who had fallen through ice while chasing him. He was recaptured and burned at the stake. |
